Volunteers are needed for the Human Rights Committee (HRC) at The Resource Exchange.
The Resource Exchange (TRE) is a nonprofit charged by the State (a “community centered board”) to oversee the supports and services to people with developmental disabilities in its three-county service area of El Paso, Park, and Teller Counties. The Human Rights Committee (HRC) is a contracted function TRE performs for the State as a community centered board.
According to C.R.S 27 10.5 the HRC is defined as "a third party mechanism to adequately safeguard the legal rights of persons receiving services by participating in the granting of informed consent, monitoring the suspension of rights of persons receiving services, monitoring behavior development programs in which persons with developmental disabilities are involved, monitoring the use of psychotropic medication by persons with developmental disabilities, and at the committee's option, either providing or ensuring the investigation of allegations of abuse or neglect of persons with developmental disabilities who are receiving services or supports under this article."
Time commitment is one day every month, and 2 days per month each quarter, always on Wednesday. The volunteer is given time to review information about cases at home one week prior to the meeting. Reviewing cases at home generally takes no more than 6 hours. Confidentiality agreement must be signed and followed. Please contact Jamie Gessner for more information or interest at 380-1100.
While anyone can apply for this volunteer position, we are needing expertise in the area of social services and disabilities. A professional in these fields is an ideal candidate. This opportunity is sponsored by: The Resource Exchange
