IHN provides shelter, meals and hospitality to homeless families with children. IHN provides those services by partnering with faith-based congregations in the local area who provide facilities and volunteers. Volunteers help move beds, prepare meals, help children with homework, and provide hospitality to parents.
Description:
IHN partners with over 20 area congregations that provide rooms and privacy for homeless families to stay together at night. IHN serves four families at a time and all four families go to each host congregation for a week. Congregations host two, three, or four times a year. IHN also partners with over 10 support congregations who assist the host congregations with meals, moving beds and hospitality.
History:
Interfaith Hospitality Network of Colorado Springs was incorporated in 1996. The founders were members of several congregations who were concerned about the problem of homelessness in Colorado Springs but could not devote full time to the need. In collaboration with other congregations, IHN opened its doors to families in 1997. Families may stay at the Day Center during the day, where IHN has a case manager to help the families access services and get on their feet.
