Inspired by the compassionate love of Christ, Lutheran Family Services (LFS) walks with the vulnerable through services that heal, strengthen and provide hope. LFS assists refugees in their resettlement in the United States. Refugees are people who are forced to flee their country of origin because of well-founded fear of persecution due to race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group or political opinion.

Description:
LFS provides services, support, and encouragement to refugees as they adjust to life in the United States. In many cases , LFS works together with volunteers, a co-sponsoring church, organization or relative to provide basic services to refugees and asylees. LFS is committed to offering care and support to the people it serves, regardless of race, religion, gender, or age.

History:
LFS was formed in 1948 as the Lutheran Service Society (LSS), the founding organization was dedicated to providing adoptive placement for unwanted children. In 1960's LSS also began to provide services to the aging population and in the 1970's,impacted by the Vietnam War, programs were added to provide services to refugees and international adoption. The name change to Lutheran Family Services of Colorado (LFS) occurred in 1990 to better portray the broader scope of services provided by the agency.
