Alpine Autism Center
Last updated on February 29, 2008

The mission of the Alpine Autism Center is to provide access to effective treatment for individuals and families affected by autism in the Pikes Peak Region, enabling those affected by autism to reach their full potential. The vision of the Alpine Autism Center is to sustain a state-of-the-art center of excellence for autism treatment, providing integrated, comprehensive services accessible to all families affected by autism and related disorders in Southern Colorado.

Description:
The Alpine Autism Center provides on-site treatment and professional consultation services in the community, including training to families, teachers and other service providers. In addition, we are a “one stop shop” for families of newly diagnosed children, providing free resource packets with local and national autism information. We hold free quarterly parent meetings and quarterly training sessions, including “Autism 101: The Basics of Diagnosis, Assessment, and Treatment,” and “Effective Individualized Education Plans for Children with Autism.” We maintain a membership of 40 families and member benefits include free advocacy services and quarterly newsletters.

History:
Our organization was formed in 1999 by a group of concerned parents and professionals to improve services and treatment for children with autism spectrum in the Pikes Peak Region. In our first years, we were successful in increasing awareness and providing education, advocacy, and some services to families. However, after several years we realized that our actions were not actually improving the availability or quality of services in the community. We then shifted our focus in early 2004 to opening and sustaining a state-of-the-art autism treatment center. We opened the Alpine Autism Center in October of 2005 and became the first (and only) treatment facility in the Pikes Peak Region providing specialized services to children on the autism spectrum.
